How to choose a passepartout

First of all, what is a passepartout?

The passepartout is the space between the image to be framed and the frame and is used to focus and therefore enhance the framed image. There are two types of passepartout to choose from, cardboard passepartouts (standard, velvet and linen) with a 45° bevel and wooden passepartouts.

The first is suitable for all types of frames and all subjects that are not very thick (0.3 cm maximum) and requires glass/crilex.You can find it in different colours and choose from sizes ranging from 3 cm to 15 cm wide. When using this passepartout, it is advisable to reduce the size of the hole by a couple of millimetres so that the card rests comfortably on the image without the image coming out of the hole.In any case, in the configurator you will always have to indicate the exact size of your subject. It will then be the responsibility of our laboratory to reduce the size of the hole (base and height of your subject) by about 2 mm. so that the passepartout can be applied comfortably on the image/photo without the risk of it coming out.

The second passepartout is only suitable for frames with a stop of more than 15 mm. It is particularly suitable for paintings, is available in the colours indicated and does not require glass. For this passepartout, the exact measurements of your subject (painting on canvas, mdf board, etc.) must be entered in the configurator without reducing or increasing them.
